A Sydney journalist has filmed a confrontation with a woman who appears to be publicly shaming her “cheating boyfriend” and inviting strangers to pelt him with eggs and yoghurt.

In a humiliating scene at Newtown Station last night, the alleged cheater was seen standing with a sandwich board reading, “I lied to my partner. I broke commitments. I am a hypocrite. If you have ever been hurt by a man please humiliate and abuse me.”

Editor of of Sneaky Mag James Branson later found the man backed against a wall in a Newtown back alley being pelted with food by four women.

He was forced to wear a milk crate on his head as they struck him with a garbage bag.

In a heated confrontation caught on camera, Branson challenged the women about whether the treatment went too far.

One of the women replies: “If you think that something like this … is over the top, why aren’t you trying to challenge all the f—ed up things that’s going on all the time that men perpetuate to women all the time. This is not even that bad.”

It is unclear whether it was set up but Branson told ninemsn he is convinced the women were genuinely trying to punish the man.

“My first reaction was laughter, I thought it was pretty funny,” Branson told ninemsn.

“My second reaction was to imagine if this was a female, and thinking this would be the most f—ed up thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”

At one point a woman believed to be the man’s girlfriend laughs and slams a bag of garbage into the milk crate.

Branson and his girlfriend Elsa McGrath at first thought the shaming was part of a performance piece, but became convinced the man — while giving his consent — was participating under duress.

“I got pretty uncomfortable and backed away,” Ms McGrath said.

“The thing that kind of got to me was that none of them seemed to see anything wrong with what they were doing.”

Ms McGrath said she considered herself a feminist but she was still shocked by what she witnessed.

“The women claimed they were doing it in the name of feminism,” she said.

“That was not feminism. That was misandry; it was what ‘bros’ think feminism is.”

A photo shared on Twitter showed the alleged philanderer standing in the docks at Newtown station during peak hour last night with a carton of eggs in front of him with eggs shells cracked on his head and neck.
