Judge tells killer he hopes she dies in prison
Michigan resident Camia Gamet was convicted of stabbing her boyfriend Marcel Hill to death in a Jackson County court last month, local TV station WXYZ reports. During her sentencing overnight the 31-year-old repeatedly interrupted Judge John McBain, who at one point told Gamet to “shut your mouth or I’m going to have some duct tape put on it”. She also rolled her eyes and laughed as members of the victim’s family addressed the court. The judge called Gamet’s crime the worst cold-blooded murder he had ever seen and sentenced the killer to life in prison without parole, adding that he hoped she would die in jail. “I agree with the family. I hope you die in prison as well,” Judge McBain said. “If this was a death penalty state you’d be getting the chair.”
Mr Hill’s family were happy with the sentence, saying justice had been served.
During her trial Gamet claimed she had killed an intruder in self-defence inside a dark room after she woke to glass being smashed over her head. But her pleas fell on deaf ears with the court hearing that Gamet had a history of violence against her partner, hitting him in the head with a hammer in March last year.
